Door Closer Lock Down &quote;locks&quote; from decommissioned fire hose

It is ideal to measure the CIRCUMFERENCE of your door closer to determine the best fit for these. Measure AROUND the widest portion, closest to the closing mechanism to get the circumference which will match the name:

12″ circumference for extra large this is 4″ diameter hose
10″ circumference for large this is 3″ diameter hose
8″ circumference for medium this is 2.5″ diameter hose
5″ circumference for small this is 1.75″ diameter hose

I do currently have some 1.5″ diameter hose available if you need something smaller than 5″. Please let me know how many and I’ll make a custom order.

If you see a measurement in the photos – that is the WIDTH of the door closer area with either a 1/4″ or 1/2″ piece of foam inserted to show the flat width. You really want to get the hose all the way against the closing mechanism. See the video to see how this works. Yes, the door opens a little with hard pressure, but not enough to allow entry and should provide adequate protection very quickly. Even if you can lock the doors, if you need a key, keeping one of these near the door can allow anyone to “lock” the door closer in a lock down situation. Always round down in your size. It’s better for the hose not to go all the way to the end than to have it open too far.

We cut 6″ lengths of single layer decommissioned fire hose for classroom and office security for doors which have metal door closers. Can easily be stored in a desk drawer or glue on a magnet for metal door frames or velcro on hose and wall.

The woven nylon items Small, Medium, Large can be decorated with dye, silk screen ink, paint, or sharpie. The yellow rubber XL can be decorated with sharpie. The XL locks are likely to have printing on them from their time as fire hose. Any of these may still have dirt on them from their use as fire hoses. The polyester ones can be washed in a washing machine but the ends will fray. Fix frays with a lighter or match. The yellow rubber ones can be washed in the sink or dishwasher.

The small through large hose is a single layer of woven nylon/polyester adhered to rubber while the extra large is a rubber hose with nylon weaving internally reinforcing the rubber.

I’ve had to increase my shipping time to 3-5 days due to overwhelming response recently. I can only cut so much hose a day. Most orders do ship in less time than this.

I do have larger 13.5″ in circumference – please ask if you need this.

Note that my shop offers free shipping over $35 so an order of 18 or more gets you free shipping. Also, if you’re ordering less than $35 worth and you feel the shipping is too much, it probably is! Etsy doesn’t allow me to assign different shipping weights to the different sizes so they are all “weighed” as the same as the XL. If the shipping seems high, message me with how many you want in each size and I’ll make you a more accurately weighed custom order.

I cannot adjust Etsy’s return policy, but these items are in demand enough that I will accept returns or exchanges. Depending on the quantity you initially purchased, at a minimum, if you pay return shipping, I will credit you all but the initial shipping of the original order. It isn’t uncommon for folks to not get the right size the first time and my priority is that these products make places safer. I’m happy to help where and when I can.
