We have had many requests for a lavender cold cream – Cold creams in our shop have been by far, our best sellers. Bergamot, violet, rose and orange along with glycerine creams historically seem to be the norm while lavender cold cream recipes are few and far between. Lavender was one of the most popular scents in Victorian times with lavender being used in soaps, perfumes and toilet waters however, lavender cold cream… surprisingly absent.
James Atkinson of Atkinson and Atkinson was the first company to get close to the idea of a true lavender cold cream when in 1811 he produced lavender curling fluid, lavender water and a perfume of lavender… Yardley of London then seized this opportunity in 1853 when scientific developments moved soap from a cottage industry basis to large production thus the soap price dropped along with its profit. Thornton and Richard Gardner then steered development of Yardley towards the toiletries and perfume side formulating toilet waters, facial powders and brilliantines. One of their best sellers was of course lavender cold cream also called Yardleys’ Old English lavender face cream. Their line of many lavender products was sold directly to high end stores along with salons promoting a “foundation of Beauty” and the idea of a pure English complexion.
We have used a true Lavandula angustifolia essential oil, the very same lavender oil used by Yardley along with golden jojoba, sweet golden almond oil and beeswax. The result is a fresh, sweet uplifting treat for your skin. Packaged in a 1.5 or 4 ounce glass screw top jar with metal lid.
How to use: can be used as a makeup remover and moisturizer by putting a bit on a hot cloth and spreading over face, gently wipe off. Also great for parched, chapped winter hands. For extra winter skin help slather on hands and sleep in gloves… your hands will thank you in the morning.
Please note: the weather can really affect a product, especially during hot/cold months. This cream is emulsified naturally with beeswax, not a chemical emulsifier such as Polysorbate or wax that contains palm oil. If the product becomes frozen, simply place it on the counter to defrost and stir. If the product is heated during shipping and arrives in a melted state, stir as it cools. Creamy or fluffy, this product works all consistencies. Do you live in a hot area? Add a cold pack to help prevent melting. Suggested if you rely on a outside mailbox. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1503658624/cold-pack
